Product details

The Thermal Master P2 is one of the smallest thermal cameras you can plug into an Android phone. At roughly 27 × 18 × 9.8 mm and about 0.3 W of power draw, it pairs a 256×192 sensor with image enhancement to 512×384, a range up to 600°C and a 1.5°C accuracy rating, which makes it a favorite for electronics work as well as home and HVAC checks.

At a glance

  • ≤40 mK sensitivity at 25 Hz
  • Measures up to 600°C with ±1.5°C accuracy
  • Pocket size with a protective case included
  • USB-C, for Android phones

What the specs mean in practice

Resolution. The native sensor is 256×192, which gives you 49,152 temperature points. The 512×384 figure is enhanced output that makes edges and outlines easier to read. It does not add measurement points.

Power draw. At about 0.3 W it typically runs 5 to 7 hours on a 3,000 to 5,000 mAh phone battery, so you can use it through a full inspection without draining the phone.

Range and accuracy. A range up to 600°C with ±1.5°C accuracy suits electronics work, where components and solder joints can run hot, as well as everyday building and HVAC checks.

What you can use it for

  • Electronics repair: find a shorted or overheating component on a powered board.
  • Home energy checks: find drafts, missing insulation and warm or cold spots on walls and ceilings.
  • HVAC and plumbing: check vents, heated floors and pipes.
  • Electrical: check outlets, plugs and connections for abnormal heat.

Who should look elsewhere

  • You use an iPhone or iPad. Look at the MILESEEY TR256i or the TOPDON TC001 Max.
  • You want a camera with its own screen and battery. See the MILESEEY TR10.
  • Your phone's USB-C port does not support external camera accessories.

How it compares

  • Thermal Master P3: adds manual macro focus, under 35 mK sensitivity and support for Android, iOS and PC.
  • HTI HT-203U: the same 256×192 sensor class for Android at a lower price, with a 550°C range.

Tips for better results

  • Measure powered boards from a short distance so small parts cover several pixels.
  • Shiny bare metal reads cooler than it really is. Stick a small piece of black electrical tape on the surface and measure the tape instead.
  • Glass blocks thermal imaging, so you see the glass surface and not what is behind it.
  • For building checks, a difference of roughly 10°C (18°F) or more between inside and outside gives the clearest results.

What is in the box

  • Thermal Master P2 thermal camera
  • Protective case

Frequently asked questions

Which phones work?
Android phones with a USB-C port that supports external camera accessories. Most recent Android phones do.

Is 512×384 the real resolution?
The sensor is 256×192. The larger figure is enhanced output, which improves clarity but does not add sensor pixels.

Will it drain my phone?
It uses about 0.3 W, which is typically 5 to 7 hours of continuous use on a standard phone battery.

Is it good for circuit boards?
Yes. The range, accuracy and small size are well suited to finding hot components on boards.

Can it see through walls?
No. It shows surface temperature, not what is behind a surface.

Common applications

Electronics diagnostics, HVAC inspections, Home energy checks. Choose a thermal camera based on the target size, working distance and required measurement accuracy.

Buying guidance

Compare native infrared sensor resolution, temperature measurement range and device compatibility before ordering. Image enhancement does not increase native sensor resolution. For questions about suitability, contact ThermalVisionPlus before purchase.
