Product details
The HTI HT-203U is a plug-in thermal camera for Android phones. It has a 256×192 infrared sensor with 12 μm pixels and measures from -20°C to 550°C, which is a strong resolution and range for its size and price.

What the specs mean in practice
Resolution. 256×192 gives 49,152 thermal pixels, more than four times a 120×90 module. Small hot spots and edges are much clearer, which is the main reason to choose this over cheaper phone cameras.
Working distance. The manufacturer specifies 0.3 m to 3 m for temperature measurement. It is tuned for close and mid-range work, such as panels, equipment and rooms.
Tracking. Center-point readings plus automatic hot and cold spot tracking show you the extremes in a scene without hunting for them.
What you can use it for
- Electrical fault finding: breakers, connections and equipment.
- Heating checks: radiators, floor loops and pipes.
- Electronics and small equipment: find hot components at close range.
- Documentation: save photos and video of what you find.
Who should look elsewhere
- You use an iPhone or iPad. See the MILESEEY TR256i.
- You need long-distance viewing. See the NOYAFA NF-588E.
- You want a camera with its own screen. See the MILESEEY TR10.
How it compares
- Thermal Master P2: a 600°C range, ±1.5°C accuracy and under 40 mK sensitivity.
- UNI-T UTi120 Mobile: 120×90 with a wide 50° × 38° view at a lower price.
Tips for better results
- Stay within about 0.3 m to 3 m for temperature readings.
- Shiny bare metal reads cooler than it really is. Measure a patch of black electrical tape instead.
- Glass blocks thermal imaging, so you see the glass surface and not what is behind it.
- For building checks, a difference of roughly 10°C (18°F) or more between inside and outside gives the clearest results.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best working distance?
The manufacturer specifies 0.3 m to 3 m for temperature measurement.
Does it need charging?
No. It runs from the connected phone.
Is 256×192 really better than 120×90?
Yes. It has more than four times as many thermal pixels, so small hot spots and edges are much clearer.
Which phones work?
Android phones with a USB-C port that supports external camera accessories.
Can it record video?
Yes. It captures photos (JPG) and video (MP4).
Best-fit applications
Android-based HVAC and electrical inspections. Check the native sensor resolution, lens and device compatibility to decide whether this model fits your intended working distance and target size.
