What the specs mean in practice
Resolution and spot size. The sensor gives 49,152 temperature points. At a 56° field of view each pixel covers about 3.8 mm at 1 m, which is a good match for rooms, panels and equipment at arm's length.
Wide view. More than 56° lets you cover a whole wall or breaker panel in one frame, which speeds up scans. The trade-off is less reach: this is a close and mid-range tool.
Range. -15°C to 600°C covers building, HVAC, electrical and electronics work.
What you can use it for
- Home and HVAC checks: drafts, insulation gaps, vents and ducts.
- Electrical: panels, outlets and connections.
- Client reporting: record photos and video through the app to share findings.
Who should look elsewhere
- You use an Android phone. See the HTI HT-203U or the Thermal Master P2.
- You need long-range detection. A wide lens favors close and mid range.
How it compares
- TOPDON TC001 Max: adds a visible-light lens, with USB-C for iPhone 15 and newer, Android and Windows.
- Thermal Master P3: under 35 mK with manual macro focus, for Android, iOS and PC.
Tips for better results
- Scan electrical equipment under normal load and compare like with like.
- Shiny bare metal reads cooler than it really is. Measure a patch of black electrical tape instead.
- Glass blocks thermal imaging, so you see the glass surface and not what is behind it.
- For building checks, a difference of roughly 10°C (18°F) or more between inside and outside gives the clearest results.
Frequently asked questions
Will it fit my iPhone?
The module connects to the charging port. iPhone 15 and newer use USB-C, and earlier iPhones use Lightning. Contact us with your device model before ordering and we will confirm the match.
Is 512×384 the real resolution?
The sensor is 256×192. The larger figure is enhanced output from Matrix III processing.
Does it need charging?
No. It runs from the connected device.
Does it work with Android?
No. This model is for iPhone and iPad.
How tough is it?
It carries an IP54 rating against dust and splashes.
Common applications
Building inspections, HVAC diagnostics, Electrical maintenance. Choose a thermal camera based on the target size, working distance and required measurement accuracy.
Buying guidance
Compare native infrared sensor resolution, temperature measurement range and device compatibility before ordering. Image enhancement does not increase native sensor resolution. For questions about suitability, contact ThermalVisionPlus before purchase.
