Product details

The GTGUARD H3 is a handheld thermal monocular for seeing heat signatures in full darkness, smoke and low-visibility conditions. It uses a 256×192 sensor with AI super-resolution that displays like a 384×288 image, an AMOLED viewfinder, a battery rated for about 12 hours and a body rated IP66 for rain and dust.

At a glance

  • 256×192 sensor with AI super-resolution to a 384×288-equivalent image
  • 0.32-inch AMOLED display
  • Up to 1,498 m detection range (manufacturer-stated)
  • About 12 hours of battery and 32 GB storage
  • IP66, with scene modes for city, forest and bird watching

What the specs mean in practice

Detect, recognize, identify. The 1,498 m figure is the distance at which the H3 can pick up a heat source such as a person or large animal. Recognizing what it is takes a much shorter distance, and positively identifying it shorter still.

AI super-resolution. The sensor is 256×192. AI processing makes the displayed picture look like a 384×288 image, with cleaner edges and more apparent detail.

Battery and storage. About 12 hours of use and 32 GB of storage cover a full night of observation and recording.

What you can use it for

  • Wildlife and bird observation: dawn, dusk and night watching.
  • Property checks: scan fields, yards and outbuildings in the dark.
  • Camping and boating: see people, animals and obstacles in the dark.
  • Search tasks: look for people or animals in low visibility.

Who should look elsewhere

  • You need to measure surface temperatures for inspections. This is an observation tool, so choose a handheld thermal camera such as the MILESEEY TR20.
  • You want a faster refresh rate. The AI15 refreshes at 50 Hz.

How it compares

Tips for better results

  • Scan slowly and in sections. Heat signatures are easiest to pick out once sun-warmed surfaces have cooled, so dusk and pre-dawn work best.
  • Glass blocks thermal imaging, so you cannot view through a windshield or window.
  • Fog and heavy rain shorten effective range.
  • Never point it at the sun or another intense heat source, and clean the lens with a soft lens cloth.

Frequently asked questions

What does detection range mean?
It is the distance at which the device can pick up a heat signature, such as a person or large animal. Recognizing exactly what it is takes a shorter distance.

Is it real 384×288?
The sensor is 256×192. AI processing makes the displayed picture look like 384×288.

Can it see through walls or glass?
No. Thermal imaging does not see through walls, and regular glass blocks heat.

How long does the battery last?
About 12 hours.

Is it waterproof?
IP66 protects against dust and strong water jets, such as heavy rain.
