What the specs mean in practice
Lens and spot size. A 15 mm lens with 12 μm pixels gives about 0.8 mrad per pixel, so one pixel covers roughly 8 cm at 100 m. That is what gives the BearMight reach that a wide-angle thermal camera lacks.
50 Hz refresh. The image updates smoothly when you pan or follow moving subjects, with less lag than a 25 Hz unit.
Display. The 1024×768 figure is the resolution of the viewing screen. The thermal sensor itself is 256×192.
What you can use it for
- Outdoor observation: camping and night watching.
- Wildlife and property checks: scan fields and outbuildings in the dark.
- Sharing and recording: save photos and video to 16 GB of storage and connect by Wi-Fi.
Who should look elsewhere
- You need to measure temperatures for inspections. See our handheld cameras.
- You want AI-enhanced display output or the longest detection range. Compare the GTGUARD AI15.
How it compares
- GTGUARD AI15: AI-enhanced image, 8× zoom and a 40 mK or better sensor.
- GTGUARD H3: 12-hour battery, 32 GB and an IP66 body.
- STELLAR T3 Mini: a much smaller sight with a touchscreen.
Tips for better results
- Scan slowly and in sections. Dusk and pre-dawn give the best thermal contrast.
- Glass blocks thermal imaging, so you cannot view through a windshield or window.
- Fog and heavy rain shorten effective range.
- Never point it at the sun or another intense heat source, and clean the lens with a soft lens cloth.
Frequently asked questions
Why does a 50 Hz refresh rate matter?
The image updates smoothly when you pan or follow moving subjects, with less lag than a 25 Hz unit.
What does the 1024×768 display mean?
It is the resolution of the viewing screen. The thermal sensor itself is 256×192.
Can I identify things at the detection range?
No. It is the maximum distance at which a heat source can be detected. Identifying a target needs a shorter distance.
Does it have Wi-Fi?
Yes. Wi-Fi connectivity is built in.
How waterproof is it?
IP65 protects against dust and water jets.
