Product details

The YXP96A is a compact plug-in thermal camera for Android phones. With a 96×96 infrared sensor, a -20°C to 550°C range and a 25 Hz refresh rate, it is a low-cost way to spot hot components, warm outlets and heat leaks, and to learn what thermal imaging can do before you step up to a higher-resolution model.

At a glance

  • 96×96 infrared sensor at 25 Hz
  • -20°C to 550°C
  • 15 color palettes and a TISR detail mode
  • Plugs into Android phones by USB-C (OTG)

Full specifications

  • Infrared resolution: 96×96 (9,216 thermal pixels)
  • Temperature range: -20°C to 550°C
  • Refresh rate: 25 Hz
  • Color palettes: 15
  • Enhancement: TISR mode for more detail
  • Connection: USB-C, Android (OTG)

What the specs mean in practice

Resolution. 96×96 gives 9,216 thermal pixels, the most basic resolution in our range. You can clearly see hot and cold areas on larger objects such as panels, walls and appliances. Small components and fine edges look coarse, and a target needs to be fairly close for a reliable reading.

Refresh rate. 25 Hz gives smooth live video, so scanning a room or a panel feels responsive.

Range. -20°C to 550°C covers household, HVAC and general electrical checks.

What you can use it for

  • Quick electrical checks: breakers, plugs, chargers and appliances.
  • Home checks: warm pipes, cold windows and drafty corners.
  • Learning: a low-risk way to understand thermal imaging.

Who should look elsewhere

  • You need fine detail. 256×192 models such as the HTI HT-203U show much more.
  • You use an iPhone.

How it compares

  • UNI-T UTi120 Mobile: 120×90 with a wide 50° × 38° field of view and video recording.
  • HTI HT-203U: 256×192 for Android with the same -20°C to 550°C range.

Tips for better results

  • Get close to the target so it covers several pixels.
  • Shiny bare metal reads cooler than it really is. Measure a patch of black electrical tape instead.
  • Glass blocks thermal imaging, so you see the glass surface and not what is behind it.
  • For building checks, a difference of roughly 10°C (18°F) or more between inside and outside gives the clearest results.

Frequently asked questions

What can I realistically see at 96×96?
Clear hot and cold areas on larger objects such as panels, walls and equipment. Small components and fine edges look coarse.

Does it need charging?
No. It runs from the phone.

Does it work with every Android phone?
It needs a USB-C port that supports OTG accessories, which most recent phones offer.

What is TISR mode?
An enhancement mode that brings out more detail in the image. It improves how the picture looks but does not add sensor pixels.

Does it work with an iPhone?
No. This model is for Android.

Best-fit applications

Entry-level home heat-loss checks and electronics troubleshooting. Check the native sensor resolution, lens and device compatibility to decide whether this model fits your intended working distance and target size.

Before you buy
